sunday morning.

nat and i went bug hunting on friday. here are the four we caught along with her tostone (fried plaintain) in the background.

nat has a bit of a wet cough so we stayed home while rick went to sunday school and church this morning. i have the windows ajar and that wonderful spring air is wafting through the room. the morning is still a bit gray but i have a feeling it will brighten up and warm things in no time.

yesterday was a great day. after nat's ballet class we walked to the activity center next door to see what we could find at the library's book sale. i must say, we really did score on some good books. here is the list of buys:

books we read already:
  • flowers for algernon (rick)
  • the diary of anne frank (me)
  • pilgrim's progress (us both)
  • little women (me and i must say, it's an absolutely lovely edition. for only a dollar, we have procured a 1915 hardback edition!
new reads for us both:
  • under the black flag (the romance and the reality of life among the pirates)
  • house of sand and fog
  • kon-tiki
  • the restaurant at the end of the universe (the sequel to the hitchhiker's guide to the galaxy)
  • madame bovary (another great hardback edition, 1949)
  • midnight in the garden of good and evil
  • A.L.I.E.E.E.N. (the first extraterrestrial comic book print on planet earth!)

nat also came away with a few books and videos as well. later that afternoon we went over to rick's cousins house for a bbq and watch the dodgers win their 8th consecutive game (go blue!) and the de la hoya fight as well.

now i have to compile a short wish list that my mom asked me to do for mother's day. here's what i came up with:

footwear:
j-41 aquarius slip on shoes in black
j-41 yoga slide in navy/sky
alice crocs in peacock
celeste canvas crocs in black
santa cruz crocs in white/blueprint

(all none leather shoes, a way to be a bit more eco and animal friendly)

jewelry:
sand dollar necklace from jcrew
opera length gold ring necklace from jcrew

miscellaneous:
the FEED bag (stylish, sustainable and will provide a school year of meals for a needy child)

of course, there are plenty of more things to want and add to the list. sometimes when faced with what to ask for/get i am stumped. maybe because i have grown to like things and maybe want them but overall not pine for material things like i once did. things are nice and lovely to have and i am more of the impression of if i get it great and if not, nothing lost. maybe that's why instead of getting extravagant in my wish list above i am aiming for more practical and/or eco friendly items (well, except for the jewelry of course!) we will see...

p.s. i forgot to mention that i am now a proud member of the Eco Etsy Street Team! i barely made the cut off so let's see what i can do :)
