the san diego zoo

since we did the walk saturday morning, we had complimentary tickets to go to the zoo again the next day. what a lovely zoo it is too! san diego is so beautiful and with this zoo, sea world and the coast too, i would think about moving here.

how awesome to see this especially on mother's day!

the domesticated animals! (or are they?) :)

a rare sight, a little baby bird in her nest...

sshhh!! the pandas are sleeping...

looking cool on the way to see the polar bears

i love polar bears...even the sleepy kind...

an ivory carving, i am totally inspired by this design (you'll see...)

home at last, with hedgie our new little snowy owl from the zoo (named after hedwig, of course)

here's a little slideshow. it has some of the same photos i posted here and some that are not. i especially like it because it's in black and white with that old timey film look..

downtown disney and morning things...

today is a bit of a slow morning...this post will probably be more on the frank side because of it (but who knows once i get started). yesterday we did go to downtown disney, first visiting the ESPN Zone with nat for the first time. of course she enjoyed the arcade area where we did a little river rafting, basketball shoots, air hockey and even a little pitching. my fastest pitch was 36 mph to andruw jones and needless to say, he hit a home run off of me (hmmmm...if only in real life for him that is)!

afterwards we visited one of our favorite little book shops, compass books and cafe. i scored on a seven dollar buy for the mysterious benedict society and nat went off with a bug play set. we went and ate a the storyteller's cafe and wow....delicious!!! we chowed down on fresh baked bread and cornbread and while the carnivores ate their meals i cleared my plate of the four cheese ravioli with roasted peppers, mushrooms and asparagus! mmmmmmm....oh, and we had to finish it all off with a berries and ice cream on flourless chocolate cake. delightful indeed. of course we had to make a pit stop to natalie's "friend" the bear statue, where we took more pictures of her and it to add to the collection.

so, on to this morning...

i am still in the process of voting my 25 times for the 2008 all-star list (dodgers across the board on the NL except for third base which i am voting for wright of the mets since nomar is back on the DL).

entered in already to win a trip for two to the all-star game plus other great things included.

checked email; received one from etsy for animals. clicked on the links and online campaigned:

to end bear poaching.

to protect san diego seals.

to help ban deadly poisons used on animals.

to stop the destruction of the mississippi wetlands.

to urge congress to permanently protect the artic refuge.
(this one not on the list but i saw it and completed the info to campaign for it).

to end the slaughter of america's horses.

still voting and now for someone reason it froze on me so i'll have to complete it later.

so much for being frank ;)

our day in LA...

nat and rick both had today free so we decided to head off to the Los Angeles Zoo for a bit. It was a little crowded, filled with various school field trips but we did manage to see a few of our favorites (including the spider city exhibit, a favorite of theirs, not mine). afterwards we went to where the pony rides are and took a little train trip as well. here are a few of our pictures from the day...

waiting to take the first photo's pose...

a tawny frogmouth, one of my favorites...

at the petting zoo...

natalie with her 'friend'...

good times with daddy (my fave photo of the day)...

and with me too!

a meerkat poses..

rick's favorite, the orangutan...

and on a pony ride!

maybe next time i'll include more photos of the animals but my little polar bear natalie is my favorite camera subject!
