thursday morning walk...

this morning we took a little walk. we first brought along duchess, my parent's dog for her first walk. she had a bit of trouble so we made the walk short for her. after returning her to the house, natalie and i went for our own walk around the little school across the street..

natalie brought along a basket to find some earthly treasures. she collected a few twigs, flowers, leaves and a pine cone or two. she even had a little branch for awhile she was using as a cane like 'mad-eye moody'..

we came back and i had her make a page of the walk in her scrapbook journal. it's drying right now but i love how these little moments will be remembered..

it seems as thought i just needed to start over again in some place. i have had a livejournal account for awhile now but something was amiss. i ended up deleting the account yet somehow with certain friends and groups still there, felt the urge to return. it was time for hello_morning to end for more than one reason. i am happy with that decision, i do not regret ending it. however, it seems, the pull brought me back for a chance to start again, a bit differently i think. so, i back there once again as owlacrobat. since i have demeter here, i am wondering how i will in general use owlacrobat. we will see...

also!! yvette and i started a blog that we are both truly excited about, october in may! it's an everyday/crafty/we love autumn and halloween too/friendship/photo blog. come and see the beginnings of it!

the san diego zoo

since we did the walk saturday morning, we had complimentary tickets to go to the zoo again the next day. what a lovely zoo it is too! san diego is so beautiful and with this zoo, sea world and the coast too, i would think about moving here.

how awesome to see this especially on mother's day!

the domesticated animals! (or are they?) :)

a rare sight, a little baby bird in her nest...

sshhh!! the pandas are sleeping...

looking cool on the way to see the polar bears

i love polar bears...even the sleepy kind...

an ivory carving, i am totally inspired by this design (you'll see...)

home at last, with hedgie our new little snowy owl from the zoo (named after hedwig, of course)

here's a little slideshow. it has some of the same photos i posted here and some that are not. i especially like it because it's in black and white with that old timey film look..

tote gone awry and off we to san diego we go...

as i am here in doing this i still have clothes to put away and packing to do for the three of us for our trip to san diego early tomorrow morning. i do have to "record" about my tote bag fiasco. i have a current illustration of mine that i really like and that it would look great on a tote bag (which it does by the way). however, i did a botched up job. here is the first result:

you can see in the close-ups the places where the transfer had some difficulty. i won't even show what the second result is (in trying to fix the problem, i went back to re-iron and made it worse. oh well. it will still serve as a good tote bag to keep in the car for natalie and goodies to keep her entertained while driving).

nat and i also decided to give my mom her mother's day gift today since we won't be here for the weekend. one of the gifts we gave her is an illustration/collage i did for especially for her, nicely matted and framed.

i call it a matriarchal family tree since it depicts my mom, myself and natalie jane. i hope she finds a nice spot for it. as for me, i was lucky enough to recieve my gift today in the mail from my mom. she hooked me up with the j-41 slip-ons i wanted.

well, i'm off. i have putting things away, packing, showering, washing (nat), etc. etc. for the big day tomorrow!

a shirt and tote...

this morning i finally went to buy some things at michael's to expand my artwork into nice little practical things. i bought a packet of iron on transfer sheets. i was so excited and i was about to use the website they recommend you use with the transfers. i am so glad i didn't. when you commit your images, that company holds ALL rights to your artwork. so i decided to just print it out straight from my documents to the paper. i made natalie this little green shirt with a cute little pear on it:

and here is my little bubelah showing it off:

i also bought several canvas tote bags. my sister in law brittany has been wanting a tote bag from me (me as in littlebighead) for the longest. i'll be seeing her this weekend for the liver walk so i made one for her using one of my littlebigDead prints (yes, i have a soft spot skeletons and such too). it came out a bit spotty so i am going to have to work on my ironing skills before i can really start hatching these out for the shop to sell.

her scrapbook...

i started a simple scrapbook for natalie to do. now that she is older, i think it's a wonderful visual diary of what her childhood is and will be. i let her decide what she wants to put in there, with a little additional help from myself. in years to come, i hope this will be a wonderful book filled with valuable memories:

the cover, just a simple red composition book

nat modeling with one of our favorite pages (this was done last fall, during a walk, we collected a few things and combined them here with her colorings of wallace and grommit).

a collection of costumes natalie likes.

showcasing two pages, both from different sunday school activities

the record of when she got her ears (re)pierced.

a drawing and explanation of a princess she drew.

petals from my tulips

drawings from our bug hunt on friday

i love this scrapbook of hers and want to continue to make these books with her over the years. as for me, i've started drawing again, here is my most recent item i am working on:
